Eighty percent of success comes from being clear on who you are, what you believe in and what you want.

You can't climb to the next rung on the ladder until you are excellent at what you do now.

Eighty percent of all obstacles to success come from within. Find out what is constraining in you or your company and deal with it.

The ability to focus on one thing single-mindedly and see it through until it's done takes more character than anything else.

Flood your life with ideas from many sources. Creativity needs to be exercised like a muscle; if you don't use it you'll lose it.

Most in demand and least in supply, courage is the willingness to do the things you know are right.

Continuous learning:
Read, at the very least, one book a week on business to keep you miles ahead of the competition. And just as you eat and bathe, organize your time so you spend 30 minutes a day exploring email, sending messages, going through websites, because like exercise, it's the only way you can keep on top of technology. If you get away from it, you'll lose your edge.

Thought for the Day

The Extra one Degree....

At 211 degrees...water is hot.
At 212 boils.
And with boiling water, comes steam.
And steam can power a locomotive.
And, it's that one extra degree that... Makes all the difference.

Parental Control Software - Control your kids' online activities

Activity Monitor: Regulate And Control Online Activity On A System

You can install Activity Monitor on the system that you wish to monitor, and regulate the set of rules for blocking webpage types. For example, you can set filters by specifying the audio, video, image and other file types.

The Network Block Rules feature of Activity Monitor provides the option to block TCP connections (All connections, POP3/SMTP, FTP, HTTP and others), block data according to packet size, add IPs to block and add a proxy server IP (if any). Once you have configured your parameters, click the Start (Play icon) button from main interface.

Network Block Rules

The wide range of options presented by Activity Monitor can not only be used for parental control purposes, but also to keep an eye on the activity of, or to block access for, an employee, co-worker (e.g., on shared computers) etc. Activity Monitor creates a log of all online activities, which includes anything from browsing history, Windows Live Messenger chats, emails, FTP connection history (downloaded and uploaded FTP files) and more. It must be noted that the icons on the main interface can be a bit misleading, as the Internet Explorer icon displays browsing history for pages browsed even from other browsers like Firefox. SurveilStar Activity Viewer Free Version

While Activity Monitor is quite a comprehensive parental control and online activity monitoring and regulation application, it's interface needs some work, and should be improved by the developers to make options more easy to identify, combined with a more attractive UI. SurveilStart Activity Monitor works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

How to Switch Excel Columns and Rows

PostHeaderIcon How to Switch Excel Columns and Rows

Instead, I want to have the Company names display vertically in Column A and the attributes display horizontally in Row 1. This would make it easier for me to do comparisons. For example, I can't easily filter the spreadsheet for vendors in CA. I also didn't want to re-enter the data. The fix is rather easy using Excel's transpose feature.

To switch Excel columns and rows,

1. Open the spreadsheet you need to change.
2. If needed, insert a blank worksheet.
3. Click the first cell of your data range such as A1.
4. Shift-click the last cell of the range. Your selection should highlight.
5. From the Edit menu, select Copy.
6. At the bottom of the page, click the tab for the blank worksheet such as Sheet2.
7. In the blank worksheet, click cell A1.
8. From the Edit menu, select Paste Special. The Paste Special dialog should appear.
9. Click the checkbox for Transpose.
10. Click OK.
Once you transpose the data, your company names will show in Column A. I can now sort or filter the data in many ways.

I don’t get recognized for what I do

I don't get recognized for what I do

By Shweta Leave a Comment

"For many years I have put in long hours, including many weekends. I have put my energy and soul into my job and the organization. I have brought profits to the team; but I have never been recognized for it."
AJ said and was almost ready to quit working for those who didn't care what he had done for them; but of course is ready to change with some advice.

You could give a quick advice saying "hey, it is the self-marketing era; go toot your own horn." But it does not work for everyone, some people are not good at it and some too shy or uncomfortable to do so.

Before you barge out of the job or barge in your supervisors' office, it is a good idea to first evaluate and assess the situation (alright, you have been doing it all along; how about doing it in a different way now?)

First Self Assessment: Is it you? What type of a person are you, timid, introvert or outgoing and a self-marketer. Chances are you are well described or close to the first two descriptions in the sentence above. (Note: there could be other reasons so if you think it is not you then skip to the next point). During this self assessment, take time to answer the following questions:

If the answers are "yes" to all or most of them, then move on to the next point else TRY to get convert your "nays" to yes on all of the above (How? Follow the links to read the relevant articles)

It is them

"As companies tighten their belts during tough times, it's important to remember that money isn't always what matters most to employees. When it comes to encouraging employees to pour discretionary effort into their work, the chance to make a difference and be recognized for their contributions can provide a much stronger incentive. Unfortunately, only 49% of non-management employees report that their contributions are recognized by their company when they perform well." – Hay Group Insight, September 2008

There are some tough managers and especially if you somehow have fallen in the bad books of yours, it is quite imperative that you are not in the list of "deserving/to-be-recognized" employees.
Also note this very interesting observation from Bob Nelson (on Workplace911):
911: Who is the worst at recognizing employees?
BN: The research tells us the older someone is, the more likely they are not to believe recognizing employees is important. They grew up in a different era and thus often hold different values about work, such as the belief that "people should be glad they have a job" or "we thank people every two weeks: it's called a paycheck." Yet 77 percent of today's employees say that recognition is very or extremely important to them.

Step 2: Ask your Colleagues
It may be the company culture that recognitions are present but not so evident. Ask your co-workers if they are generally awarded pay raises or bonuses or other incentives post-performance reviews or in other ways in their divisions. You can get a better idea on different managerial practices and thereafter plan appropriate action items. Your action items could be meeting your own expectations towards gaining recognition or initiating meetings with your boss to inform why your expectations for recognition are not being met.

In the end it is your responsibility on how you want to be treated by others, there are many self-help articles on this blog and others as well where you can find ways to steer closer to recognition at work.

How recognized do you feel at work and what do you think helps in getting recognition?

Bad Attitudes – Don’t Give in to Them

You might be beset with times of weakness, and this might make you feel that you are a weak person. You imagine that your strength and abilities have left you for good. You don't feel you have the strength to make any worthwhile effort, so even patience and persistence seem to be fruitless.

Do not give in to such feelings. We all go through such times. Our abilities wax and wane. If we resist letting such feelings defeat us, we will soon see our strength restored.

Disappointment is another feeling we should remain vigilant against. If we are not careful, it can shatter our self-confidence and make us feel that we are hopeless. Do not give in to this. We need to know that failure is not shameful as long as we gave it our utmost best and were sincere.

No person can be counted a failure unless he accepts defeat and gives up trying. Therefore, we must keep trying. With persistence, we can – with Allah's grace – reach our goals.

At other times, you might be afflicted with feelings of pride. You might be very much impressed with yourself or with your achievements. You get all puffed up with yourself and begin to feel that you are uniquely gifted and praiseworthy. You feel you don't need anyone else's advice or guidance.

If you find yourself in this frame of mind, beware. Don't give in to these feelings. Don't let yourself get enamored of your own cleverness. Don't become impressed with just how much you know.

The remedy here is to contemplate on your deficiencies. Think about the areas where you are lacking. Think about where you are weak. In this way, you can give a counterweight to your achievements and restore yourself to a balanced frame of mind.

Then there are times when you have so many worries that they weigh you down. Problems just seem to come from all directions. You might begin to imagine that this is what your life is about – one long list of problems. Pessimism tales over and you see your future as dark indeed with no light up ahead.

Do not give in to such pessimism. Never look at the bad without thinking about the good that lies ahead. Never mistake your present problems for being your lot in life.

Allah says: "So, verily, with every difficulty, there comes ease: Verily, with every difficulty there comes ease." [Sûrah al-Inshirâh: 5-6]

You do your utmost to ascertain what is correct. You try so hard to always do what is right. You do everything in your power to avoid making a mistake towards another person. Nevertheless, you still slip and fall into error – over and over again.

Don't let this make you to think that you should give up aspiring to excellence. Who is it that never sins?

When a person slips and slips again, Satan tries to put in that person's heart the idea that he is a bad person – that he is far away from all that is good.

Satan wants to make you think that you are a hopeless case – predestined for damnation. He wants you to give up trying to be good.

Never give in to such thought. Remember what the Prophet (peace be upon him) told us: "Every one of Adam's children is a sinner – and the best of sinners are those who repent." [Sunan al-Tirmidhî (2423) and Sunan Ibn Mâjah (4241)]

Allah says: "Those who fear Allah, when a thought of evil from Satan assaults them, bring Allah to remembrance, when lo! they see aright!" [Sûrah al-A`râf: 201]

In this way, we will be able to ward off the gloom of hopelessness and despair.

Don't give in.

Queen of Holland - Story with Lesson

A distinguished lady, noted for the fine family from which she came, was once presented at the court of the Queen of Holland. Later, the wife of a minor government official asked her how she happened to know the proper way to behave, before a queen.
"I really didn't know," the woman replied. "But I have only one set of manners and I use them all the time." We should have one set of manners, too. We should always be gentle, kind and most of all, loving.
Treat the rich and the poor, the attractive and the unattractive all the same, because each is a reflection of God Himself. And how you treat them, is a reflection of what kind of a person you are!

Most Expensive Cars In The World: Top 10 List 2011-2012

Most Expensive Cars In The World: Top 10 List 2011-2012

What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you had the money and opportunity, you would probably spend a small fraction of it on a collection of supercars for your private garage.

Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market; we will not include concept cars.

World's Most Expensive Cars:

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sports $2,400,000. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today (the base Veyron costs $1,700,000). It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It is also the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph. When competing against the Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared!

2. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster $1,850,000. One of the most exotic cars out there is one of the most expensive. It can go from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

We have a tie for 3rd place:

3. Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000. The most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built is the third on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and it has a top speed of 211 mph. Its rarity (limited to 20) and slick design are the reasons why it is so expensive and costly to own.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R $1,600,000. The Agera R can burn 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 mph. It has the parts to reach 270 mph, but the supercar is electronically capped at 235 mph. With the completion of certain paperwork, the company will unlock the speed limit for one occasion.

4. McLaren F1 $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable  top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Even today, the McLaren F1 is still top on the list and outperforms many other supercars.

5. Ferrari Enzo $670,000. The most popular supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 units were produced and it is currently being sold for over $1,000,000 at auctions.

6. Pagani Zonda C12 F $667,321. Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the 6th most expensive car in the world. It promises to delivery a top speed of 215 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero $654,400. Don't let the price tag fool you, the 7th most expensive car is actually the 3rd fastest street legal car in the world with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. This baby cost less than half as much as the Bugatti Veyron, yet has enough power to compete against the most expensive car. It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced.

8. Ascari A10 $650,000. This badboy can reach a tested top speed of 215 mph, zooming 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. The British car company plans to assemple 50 of these supercars in their factory in Banbury, England.

9. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo $555,000. The first true American production certified supercar, this cowboy is also rank 4th for the fastest car in the world. It has a top speed of 248 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. If you are a true American patriot, you can be proud to show off this car.

10. Koenigsegg CCX $545,568. Swedish made, the Koenigsegg is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the 5th fastest car in the world with a top speed of 245 mph+, the car manufacture Koenigsegg has just released the Koenigsegg Agera R to compete against the Bugatti Veyron. The company is a tough contender and will continue to try and produce the fastest car in the world. Good luck with that!
