Story of Innovation: The ball points

Necessity is the mother of invention, no doubt about that! Ladislao Biro, a Hungarian, was a sculptor, a painter and a journalist. But he was also a printer's proof reader, and he was frustrated by the amount of time he wasted filling fountain pens from a bottle of ink and cleaning up ink smudges.  Besides that, the sharp tip of his fountain pen often scratched or tore through the paper. He was determined to develop a better pen.

Ladislas and his brother Georg, a chemist, started experimenting with a pen that would not need to be refilled and would not smudge the pages. Ladislas, noticed the type of ink used in newspaper printing presses dried quickly leaving the paper dry and smudge free.  He decided to use the same ink. The thicker ink would not flow from a regular pen nib so he devised a new point by fitting his pen with a tiny ball bearing at its tip.  As the pen moved along the paper, the ball rotated, picking up ink from the ink cartridge and leaving it on the paper.

The ad described the new pen as a "fantastic... miraculous fountain pen ... guaranteed to write for two years without refilling!" On that first day of sales, it sold out its entire stock of 10,000 pens and the rest is history.

do you analyze current paradigms? do you think out of box? do you think about innovating new things? Do you have unique ideas? Go and implement !!!
