    I indulge in delicious dates whenever I can. However I was surprised that you wrote nothing about the sweetness of dates. Are they good for my blood sugar levels? When I enjoyed baked ripe plantains for breakfast for a month or so, my blood sugar level got elevated. I quit eating ripe plantain, any plantains, and my blood sugar level returned to normal again. Will dates upset my blood sugar level?

    Please read the last sentence of the article where it was mentioned that dates do have sugar so any person who is suffering from sugar should consult his/her doctor before taking dates:

    "Dates are popular not only because of their accessibility and availability but also because they can benefit the body in so many great ways. The same benefits do not apply to people suffering from diabetes. Though dates are low in carbohydrates, their high sugar content makes them one of the red-letter items as far as diabetes goes. Dates have no cholesterol or protein and its carbohydrate content is largely made of sugar. Therefore, diabetics are allowed dates only in small amounts and as a part of a healthy meal plan."
