Story: The Turtles Picnic

A family of tortoise went on a picnic. They packed food and set out to a place they had selected… behind the hills. When they reached the spot, they unpacked their picnic basket. They realized they had forgotten to bring salt. Food without salt is tasteless. They had a conference to decide who should go back and get salt. After a lot of discussion, the youngest tortoise was chosen, as he was faster than the others. The youngest objected on the ground that before he could come back the others might eat the snacks. But they assured him they would wait for him to come back with salt.
Six months passed, but the youngest tortoise did not turn up. So the rest of the family decided to open the basket and eat the snacks. When they opened the snack basket, the little tortoise jumped out of the bushes and screamed,"Look, I knew you would not wait till I came back. For six months I have been hiding in these bushes to make sure you would not eat without me. Now my suspicion has been confirmed, and I am not going to get the salt."

Some of us are exactly like our suspicious tortoise: we waste our own time waiting for people to live up to our expectations. Instead of doing the right thing ourselves, we wait for others to act in ways we expect them to. We waste our time waiting for others to live according to our expectations

Do You Treat People Fairly ?

By Junaid Tahir

A friend of mine is CEO of a medium size company, he says that in order to have deep understanding of the work at all levels of the company he tries to work in all domains in the company. This gives him insight of the tasks being done, associated complications, challenges and wisdom to resolve issues and optimize processes. He was telling that the job of their receptionist is tough as it involves a lot of patience. Some weeks back he sat at the reception and received the calls from their clients. Assuming that their call is being attended by the receptionist the customers talked as if they were talking to their servant. They were using harsh, rude or indecent words because of the faults related to the company products. However as soon as he introduced that he is the CEO of the company, the tone of the caller changed immediately.

While I listened to this story, I pondered that we all do the same thing in life. Our speaking tone is based on the social, professional or economical status of the person we are talking to. Which simply means that we don't treat people fairly and equally. We have a different way of communication for different people.
This reminds me of another story: Once a protocol officer asked a lady on how she would greet the Queen of Holland when the Queen visits their city; she said that she has only one set of manner and she uses it all the time and does not want to learn a special protocol to meet and greet the Queen.

So the bottom line is that we should have one set of ethical manners for all. We should be kind, humble and loving equally regardless of the social and educational background, regardless of the current economical and professional post. Humanity deserves equality and all of us should endeavor for the same.

I wrote a similar article earlier about judging people fairly. I believe that if we avoid being judgmental, we will start behaving fairly with all people. Remember, Judging people is the theoretical thing and won't make an external effect until you start showing this to others by treating them unfairly. That means Judging is more of an observatory and thought process stuff whereas treating people is the behavioral and practical thing. Judging wrongly pollutes your brain and treating wrongly pollutes the society hence both should be avoided.

So treat the rich and the poor, the attractive and the unattractive, educated, non-educated and less educated all the same, because each one is the creation of God Himself. Each soul requires fairness. How you treat them, is a reflection of what kind of a person you are !

Story: Your Simple Gesture Could Be Life Saving

Your Simple Gesture Could Be Life Saving
Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed the boy ahead of him had tripped and dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with two sweaters, a baseball bat, a glove and a small tape recorder. Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered articles.

Since they were going the same way, he helped to carry part of the burden. As they walked Mark discovered the boy's name was Bill, that he loved video games, baseball and history, and that he was having lots of trouble with his other subjects and that he had just broken up with his friend.

They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was invited in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed pleasantly with a few laughs and some shared small talk, then Mark went home.

They continued to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, then both graduated from junior high school. They ended up in the same high school where they had brief contacts over the years.

Finally the long-awaited senior year came and three weeks before graduation, Bill asked Mark if they could talk.

Bill reminded him of the day years ago when they had first met. "Did you ever wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?" asked Bill. "You see, I cleaned out my locker because I didn't want to leave a mess for anyone else. I had stored away some of my mothers sleeping pills and I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spent some time together talking and laughing, I realized that if I had killed myself, I would have missed that time and so many others that might follow.

So you see, Mark, when you picked up those books that day, you did a lot more, you saved my life."

Story: This is Our Every Day Life :)

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...

But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
A vase of flowers on the counter
Catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter ,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed,
The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
And I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Some Nice Lessons for Life

My Wife Doesn't Work

Conversation between a Husband (H) and a Psychologist (P):P : What do you do for a living Mr. Bandy ?
H : I work as an Accountant in a Bank.

P : Your Wife ?
H : She doesn't work. She's a Housewife only.

P : Who makes breakfast for your family in the morning?
H : My Wife, because she doesn't work.

P : At what time does your wife wake up for making breakfast?
H : She wakes up at around 5 am because she cleans the house first before making breakfast.

P : How do your kids go to school?
H : My wife takes them to school, because she doesn't work.

P : After taking your kids to school, what does she do ?
H : She goes to the market, then goes back home for cooking and laundry. You know, she doesn't work.

P : In the evening, after you go back home from office, what do you do ?
H : Take rest, because i'm tired due to all day works.

P : What does your wife do then ?
H : She prepares meals, serving our kids, preparing meals for me and cleaning the dishes, cleaning the house then taking kids to bed.

Whom do you think works more, from the story above ???

The daily routines of your wives commence from early morning to late night. That is called 'DOESN'T WORK' ??!!

Yes, Being Homemakers do not need Certificate of Study, even High Position, but their ROLE/PART is very important!

Appreciate your wives. Because their sacrifices are uncountable. This should be a reminder and reflection for all of us to understand and appreciate each others roles.

Story: Remembering and Forgetting

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.
The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand “Today my best friend slapped me in the face”.
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone “Today my best friend saved my life”.
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?” The other friend replied
“When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”
Moral: Do not value the things you have in your life. But value who you have in your life.

Story: The Gossip Girl

A woman repeated a bit of gossip about a neighbor.
Within a few days the whole community knew the story.
The person it concerned was deeply hurt and offended.

Later the woman responsible for spreading the rumor learned
that it was completely untrue. She was very sorry and went to a wise old sage to find out what she could do to repair the damage.

"Go to the marketplace," he said, "and purchase a chicken,
and have it killed. Then on your way home, pluck its feathers
and drop them one by one along the road."

Although surprised by this advice,
the woman did what she was told.

The next day the wise man said, "Now go and collect all those feathers you dropped yesterday and bring them back to me."

The woman followed the same road, but to her dismay,
the wind had blown the feathers all away. After searching
for hours, she returned with only three in her hand.

"You see," said the old sage, "it's easy to drop them,
but it's impossible to get them back. So it is with gossip.
It doesn't take much to spread a rumor but once you do,
you can never completely undo the wrong."

Story: The Manager And The Worker

One day a construction supervisor from 6th floor of building was calling a worker working on the ground floor. Because of construction noice, the worker on ground floor did not hear his supervisor calling.

Then, to draw the attention of worker, the supervisor threw a 10 rupee note from up which fell right around in front of the worker.

The worker picked up the 10 rupee note, put it in his pocket & continued with his work.

Again to draw the attention of worker, the supervisor now threw 500 rupee note & the worker did the same, picked 500 rupee note, put it in his pocket & started doing his job.

Now to draw attention of the worker, the supervisor picked a small stone & threw on worker. The stone hit exactly the worker head. This time the worker looked up & the supervisor communicated with the worker.

This story is same as of our life. Lord from up wants to communicate with us, but we are busy doing our worldly jobs. Then God gives us small gifts & we just keep it without seeing from where we got it.

Then God gives us amounts (gifts) & we are the same. Just keep the gifts without seeing from where it came & without thanking God. We just say we are LUCKY.

Then when we are hit with a small stone, which we call problems, then we look up & we communicate with God.

So every time we get gifts, we should thank God immediately, and not wait till we are hit by a small stone, and then communicate with God
.

The Role of Management Consultants

By Junaid Tahir:

In recent days I have developed interest to learn about Management Consulting. After my discussions with some industry people and exploring some portals, I am able to summarize the below:
Management consultants help organizations to improve their business index in term of better performance, higher customer satisfaction, healthier practices implementation, tweaking strategies and management paradigms, enhanced skill sets of team members, concrete grip on internal process flows and identifying the key areas where improvements are required to be implemented.
Primarily, they work on the company's corporate, finance, HR, Production and Operations domains for short term as well as long term task tweaking. They perform a deep analysis of the on-going tasks and give recommendations on how to improve policies and procedures, employee efficiency, decrease fault rates hence maximize company's business.
Consultants operate across a wide domains such as HR, finance, procurement, marketing, IT, Roll outs and Operations. The consultancy duration can be from one week to several months depending upon the type and size of the organization, complexity of the problems and style of current operations of the company. Some of the tasks are given below:
·           Data collection to understand the work break down structure
·           Conducting deep analysis of the on-going day to day work
·           Meetings with client's employees, management team and other stakeholders for suggesting potential improvements.

How to Talk With Children About Difficult Topics

Talking with children about difficult topics can be challenging for adults. It can be even harder for some children to understand and communicate their thoughts and feelings about certain subjects. It is important to be patient and understanding, and to keep the lines of communication open at all times.

Instructions

  • 1
Have the conversation in a comfortable and known environment if possible, such as the home. This will help keep both the adult and child a little more relaxed. Keep it private as well, so interruptions will be minimal and both of you can feel assured that your conversation is just between the two of you, and not anyone else.
  • 2
Begin the conversation as soon as the situation calls for it. Don't delay, or it will be harder for you to discuss. Whether it is a conversation about sex, death and dying, or other difficult topics, the more you wait, the larger the disservice you are doing to your children.
  • 3
Encourage your child to express his feelings and to ask questions. Be sure and listen carefully to them and be open regarding what they may say. Any negative responses may discourage the child from continuing to talk and ask questions. Let them talk as much as you do, or more so, if needed. This way it will be a two-way conversation instead of a lecture.
  • 4
Educate the child as best as you can. Give her facts and figures if needed. You may consider educating yourself beforehand so that you are more prepared. If your difficult topic is death, again, be honest in your discussion. If you don't know the answer to a question, assure them you will find that answer, if possible.
  • 5
Plan a followup discussion. Talking with a child about difficult topics is not likely to be done in one sitting. Breaking it up is best. You may think of other things to say after the fact, and your child may later come with questions or concerns. Let them know they are always welcome to come to you to talk anytime they want, but perhaps setting up a time to get together in the future and talk will help encourage them to think of things before that time.

Management Tip: Get Promoted

Gone are the days when you progress up the hierarchy at a steady pace, headed for corner office. There simply aren't enough leadership positions to go around, and most people regularly switch jobs and organizations. With no ladder to climb, look at career moves differently:

Cast a wider net
.
Be open to horizontal experience, not just vertical progression. If you're a financial analyst, for example, consider analyst positions in other areas, perhaps in market research or sales.

Prove you can handle the responsibilities.
Find ways to demonstrate your capabilities. Are you interested in taking on a management role? Offer to help your manager by interviewing job candidates or training new people.

Grow your skills.
Seek out opportunities to learn — and pounce on them. If no one in your company knows how to do something, take it upon yourself to master that skill. The knowledge you gain might make you a natural choice for the next open leadership position.

Tips to Increase Your Leadership Skills

Being a leader is one of the most effective, and a responsible job that a highly skilled person can have. A leader is the one who is always on the top, representing a group of people or a person. He must have the vision to take their company or institution to a respectable position. A leader must develop the quality of solving any given crisis in an effective way.

Here are some guidelines to increase your leadership quality:

Develop the quality of suggesting and planning:

For a leader, it is very important to have the quality of suggesting and plan according to a strategy. And the leader has to make sure that he can suggest their employers a better way to complete their task more effectively.

Represent and control your team:

Representing the group is one of the most essential tasks a leader has to make. It is the duty of a leader to voice his and his team's ideas. If a leader can represent his team more effectively, definitely he can positively influence his teammates and motivate them to work even more dynamically. A leader must include the quality of controlling the group, by observing their teams performance, instructing them to go in a right way, so that their work can be successfully presented.

Be open minded:

A good leader should be open minded to his employees, and he must listen to what his co-workers say and must value their ideas, and try to modify their ideas in a better way at the initial stage without rejecting their ideas. It may be helpful for the leaders too, as they may get new ideas for solving any crisis.

Define your goals:

Being a leader you must always describe your goal or your aim to the employees. This is a must because, for an employee it is very necessary for them to know their company's goal and vision. When they know their goal they put more effort on their work and they take it as a challenge to reach that goal. It will help them to complete their work successfully and they can benefit their company with their performance.

Be fair with your employees:

It is the duty of the leaders to be fair with all the workers in a company. Respect the employees feeling without being impartial. Know the interests of your employees and treat every worker equally without being biased.
