Are you as Ambitious as Steve Jobs, Maradona and Picasso?

Ambition, by definition, is to have strong inner desire in order to achieve something plus the willingness of striving in order to achieve it. The goal can be in terms of wealth, education, job promotion, honour or fame. When you are ambitious you posses great deal of energy inside your brain and heart. This energy acts as fuel to perform all the necessary steps in order to achieve what you want to achieve. You play your 'games' like Maradona; you imagine and paint your 'life portraits' like Picasso and you act like Steve Jobs when it comes to creativity and innovation.
However this does not mean that if you do not have expertise as those of Maradona or Pablo Picasso or Steve Jobs, you cannot be ambitious. The purpose of mentioning these personalities is that the level of energy you should be striving for should be as that of such personalities. You should not limit the size of your dreams. People who aim high, achieve high. It doesn't matter who you are; what matters is what you want to be. 

So if you are ambitious, check yourself against these qualities:

1- Do you have a concrete goal. Have to your tried writing your short term and long term goals on a piece of paper. Trust me, it helps a lot. Even I suggest writing it on a paper and paste it somewhere in your room so that you keep looking at it multiple times a day. 
2- Do you have solid vision on how you are going to achieve it?  Have you thought what actions do you need to perform? Have you arranged the resources in order to move ahead?
3- Are you a genuine ambitious person having burning desire to achieve? Know this story? Once a young man asked Socrates the secret to success. He took the young man to the river and ducked him into the water. The boy tried hard to take his head out but Socrates was strong enough to hold him there for some more seconds. Then later Socrates asked him what was the most important thing he wanted when the head was in water? They boy said, "Oxygen and I was too desperate to have it". Socrates said, "this is the level of burning desire which you must possess for your goals. When you have it, you will succeed"
Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail. So the core advice of this article is to have a Analytical thinking, concrete action plan, fearless mind-set, positive thought process and consistent attitude in order to convert your ambitions into realities. Develop the power of now and start behaving the person you want to be.

How Happy is Your Department / Organization?

It's a known fact that the efficiency of any organization is concretely linked with the work satisfaction index of the employees. You can hire good people by tough hiring criteria, you can ensure their attendance by installing time-in and time-out devices; you can ensure their availability on their desk by close monitoring through IP cameras etc however you cannot guarantee or enhance their creativity index, their efficiency and their loyalty factor by all these policing techniques. While most of the entrepreneurs want their teams to be the most effective ones and even they want them to move from effectiveness to greatness (as Stephen Covey tells in his book 'The 8th Habit') but least of them take the real effective actions in order to achieve the same.

In order to have highly collaborative and creative teams there should be an environment where teams should love what they are doing. Every morning if an employee while coming to office is enthusiastic and charged about the day, then he will make things happen. However if he is coming to office with sad heart or negative attitude then you have already half lost the project. So the point is that a culture of friendliness and trust needs to be ensured. Encouragement and consistent gratitude needs to be in place since it acts as a fuel and empowers the acceleration of the teams and the project tasks. Below are some of the points you must consider for the sake of monitoring the happiness and satisfaction index of your organization:
1-     When was the last time you did an anonymous company-wise survey to seek feedback from each of the employee? What was the score?
2-    One of the known questions from Gallup® is that "Do you have a best friend at work?" Being in-charge of your organization when did you noticed last time about any employees who don't have their best friends at work? If yes, what have you done with your empathic skills to judge this and then took any action to nourish the culture of friendliness?
3-    Do you have a rewarding culture in your company? Do you give spot awards, appreciation certificates, monetary rewards, free coupons or professional trainings?
4-    Your employees are like batteries, do you measure their 'charge level'. Remember your mobile battery icon becomes yellow and red when charge level is 25% and 10%? Same is the case with employees. You need to have close observatory and emotional intelligence and analytical skills to monitor such things.
5-    Do you ensure that your employees have a great work-life balance? Are they stress free (work related stress) on weekends? Are they over loaded or under loaded or rightly loaded? Are your managers and team leads capable of assigning the right task to the right person?
6-    Do you have family like environment where employees share their emotions, concerns and jokes? Do they laugh/smile while working (not applicable for customer facing employees)? Did you plan any family level or team level get together or any other team building activities?

    
I believe with the above recommendations you can observe, analyze and eradicate the most common causes of disengaged employees and eventually increase the productivity of the organization.

A final comment is that you should not treat your employee only as a physical human being, instead treat him as a compound of body, heart, mind and soul. Stephen R Covey recommends that once you start behaving according to this philosophy, employees start generating great results for the organization. 3 Steps to Resolve Stressfull Situations



By Junaid Tahir: Stress is a state in which you do not accept a specific situation. The more you put in your mental energies in thinking about the circumstances, the more stressful you are and vice versa.
Based on first sentence of this article you have three options to choose from when you are in stress.
  1. Accept the situation: You are not controlling the world. You cannot make everyone follow your thinking or your instructions. Every human is more or less independent in his/her decisions and responsible for the outcomes. So accept the situation and adopt the habit of 'Forgive and Forget'. Move on with your life and keep yourself busy to stay away from stress. Read my article on how to fight depression here.
  2.  Fix the situation: If you can, fix it. However, please do consider the emotions of all stake holders. Do not fix the situation which is not a win-win. Do not fix it at the cost of someone's feelings. Consider the solution which suits everyone.   
  3. Partially Fix and partially compromise:  Consider options which partially suit you and partially suit other parties. So that everyone can gain some thing at the cost of compromise. 9 Tips To Make Effective Decisions

Whatever you decide on daily basis, whatever you do in your routine life is directly or indirectly linked to your future. That means you are making the foundation of your destiny with your decision and actions in your routine life. So by looking at the bigger picture, it is right to conclude that decision making is critically important for your success and achievements of lifetime goals.  Given below is the list of insightful factors which you need to considere while making decisions.  Article written by Junaid.Tahir

1.     Consider the short term and long term consequences: Whether the decision is materialistic or a sensitive family matter.  You have to consider short terms and long terms benefits.
2.    Cost Vs quality if applicable. If you intend to purchase something, consider cost, quality, warranty perspectives. Usually cheep products have less life and bad quality but is not the case always. To cope up with this, define your budget and then carefully analyze all the options which are falling within your budget.
3.    Need Vs wants analysis: Are you purchasing for pleasure or it is your long term need. Remember this is a difference between pleasure and happiness. Sometimes pleasure dost not last long so you don't want to spend a lot for the sake of short time pleasure. If you are in Need of something then consider point-1 and point-2. 4.    Consider emotions: This is quite sensitive aspect. You have to put yourself in everyone's shoes to understand his/her emotions. You don't want to hurt someone with your decision,  instead you want to keep your stake holders emotionally satisfied. Emotional Intelligence is an art; learn it by reading on internet. To understand people you have to have true sense of judging people
5.    Consider Win-Win:  A balanced approach in which everyone gains is always recommended.  
6.    Consider all options: Don't stop your brain on one idea or approach. Think about more options. Seek advice from others on different possible solutions of the given situation/problem. to the problems which need decisions.
7.    Ask for criticism: If possible ask for criticism before implementing the decision. Although it's never too late to ask for criticism even after your decision. Feedback always helps in your future.

Tips for safety in ATM Transaction!

Whereas there are many advantages in the usage of Automatic Teller Machines, the users should take enough precautions in the safe keeping of the ATM cards provided to them and also to take precautions while doing transactions in ATMs.
 
 
Tips for Safe Use of ATMs and Performing Transactions
 
  • Your card is very important and must be kept safely.
  • Do not keep your ATM card near any magnet or magnetic gadget like television set, magnetic compass, purse or wallet having magnetic locking arrangements as magnetic field may erase all data stored in the magnetic strip of your ATM card.
  • Store your ATM card in a secure place where you will immediately know if it is missing.
  • Store the ATM card carefully so that the magnetic stripe does not get damaged.
  • Never leave your Card unattended at places like your car, in a hotel room, workplace or at the bar and restaurant you visit
  • DO NOT bend the card.
  • DO NOT place two cards with magnetic stripes together.
  • Cancel unused cards and shred blocked cards.
  • Immediately report any stolen or lost ATM card to the proper authorities 
  • Your ATM PIN must be kept very secret since ATM card can be misused by a person if he/she steals both the ATM card and the ATM PIN together.
  • Change your PIN frequently; do not write it a piece of paper or on the face/back of the ATM card but memorize it.
  • Select a PIN that must be difficult to guess; avoid household numbers such as house number, car number, birthday etc
  • Never disclose your PIN to anyone including members of your family or relatives; if it gets divulged for some reason, change it immediately.
  • Do not keep pin and card together under any circumstances.
  • Precautions to be taken while doing transaction with the card
  • Avoid using ATMs in remote / unprotected areas and avoid ATMs adjacent to obvious hiding places.
  • If you want us to alert you whenever a transaction takes place on your account / Credit Card, you can register for the Bank's SMS Service by registering your Mobile number.
  • Shield the screen and keyboard so anyone waiting to use the ATM cannot see you enter your PIN or transaction amount.
  • Be careful when people you do not know offer to help you at an ATM.
  • If you notice anything suspicious at the ATM you want to use e.g. tampering with the card slot / numbers pad or any suspicious activity around the ATM area, do not use the ATM and report your concern to the Bank immediately.
  • Do not force your card into the card slot or if you feel that the ATM machine is not working properly for any reason, press the “Cancel” key, take your card and report it to the Bank.
  • If your card gets lost, captured or stuck in the ATM, report it to the Bank to block your card immediately.
  • Make sure you get the card back after every transaction only use it at ATMs /Point of Sale (POS) machines in reputed public locations / locations known to you.
  • When using a drive in ATM, keep doors locked and passenger side and rear windows up.
  • While using your card at a POS, ensure that the merchant swipes the card in your presence.
  • Check your account balances and statements regularly to ensure your accounts have not been accessed by anyone else and to identify any unusual transaction(s).

The NetPromoterScore approach calculates your NPS using the answer to a key question, using a 0-10 scale: How likely is it that you would recommend [brand] to a friend or colleague?

Respondents are grouped as follows:
  
  • Promoters (score 9-10) are loyal enthusiasts who will keep buying and refer others, fueling growth.
  • Passives (score 7-8) are satisfied but unenthusiastic customers who are vulnerable to competitive offerings.
  • Detractors (score 0-6) are unhappy customers who can damage your brand and impede growth through negative word-of-mouth.

Subtracting the percentage of Detractors from the percentage of Promoters yields the Net Promoter Score, which can range from a low of -100 (if every customer is a Detractor) to a high of 100 (if every customer is a Promoter).

Some of us have great control over our emotional responses, and some of us struggle. Doing or saying the wrong thing in the midst of an emotional meltdown could have very negative effects. Say something your boss doesn’t like and you could be out of a job.

Gain control of your emotions with these strategies:

1. Realize that negative emotions simply don’t last. If you’re angry about something right now, you’ll probably be over it by next year, next week, or even by tomorrow. But emotions tend to focus our attention right here and now. We don’t consider the potential long-term consequences that a temporary emotional state can create.
  • Who hasn’t done or said something in the heat of the moment that’s caused great remorse? Your anger, fear, resentment, or other negative emotion will fade quickly enough. Your rash response may not.
2. Examine your emotions. Learn to notice when you’re getting emotional. When you notice yourself reacting strongly, ask yourself why. Try to label the emotion.
  • Analyze why you’re feeling that particular emotion and then admit it to yourself. This way, you can avoid rationalizing your behavior, which is a nice way of saying “lie to yourself.” If you know the real reason you’re feeling the way you do, you’re more able to do something about it.
3. Create space. Many of the challenges created by our emotions could be eliminated if we could just take a moment before reacting. Getting upset isn’t something that happens to us. It’s something we do to ourselves, and some of us are very good at it.

4. Find a role model. Would you take stock tips from a homeless man? Probably not! Learn emotional control from those that maintain their composure regardless of the circumstances.
  • When you find such a person, ask them how they do it. The answers you receive could make all the difference.
5. Find a healthy way to release negative emotions. Our actions can influence our moods. If you’re feeling bored while watching TV, there’s no reason to continue watching TV. Immediately get up and go for a walk. Go to the library and find an interesting book. Call a friend. Exercise is a great way to release energy.
  • You don’t have to passively accept your mood. Go do something else and change it!
6. Try altering your breathing. Many people assume that emotions are entirely psychological, but there is a physical component. Realize that all emotions are ultimately experienced as physical feelings in your body. You’ve just learned to label certain body feelings with names like “anger” and “fear.”
  • The only part of your physiology that can be easily controlled is your breathing. Take a look at how you’re breathing during a strong emotional response and change it.
  • A few ideas you can try are holding your breath for 5 seconds, breathing deeply and slowly for 30 seconds, breathe in slowly and breathe out even more slowly. Think about your breathing and count your breaths. Focus on the physical feeling of the air moving in and out of your body.
If you’re used to being controlled by your emotions, you know that it’s not easy to maintain your composure. But you can choose to respond differently to your emotions and make wiser choices. Negative emotions exist to inform us that something might be amiss. They are not there to control us.

Detachment - My Problem or Just 'A Problem'




When I am patient, in the face of challenges, I find time heals most of the problems. Even for those which I have to work on, patience helps me be cool and collected and helps me easily find solutions, without becoming panicky or upset. Patience also helps me to understand what I need to work on and what I need to leave for time to heal or correct.

Today I will calm my mind before attempting to find solutions. I will look with detachment at a problem, knowing well the solution has to come. I will not consider it as my problem, but just as 'a problem' that has to be worked on.
