Rules for Career Success - Richard Moran

Business is made up of ambiguous victories and nebulous defeats. Claim them all as victories.

ü        Keep track of what you do; someone is sure to ask.

ü        Be comfortable around senior managers, or learn to fake it.

ü        Never bring your boss a problem without some solution.

ü        You are getting paid to think, not to whine.

ü        Long hours don't mean anything; results count, not effort.

ü        Write down ideas; they get lost, like good pens.

ü        Always arrive at work 30 minutes before your boss.

ü        Help other people network for jobs. You never know when your turn will come.

ü        Don't take days off sick unless you are.

ü        Assume no one can / will keep a secret.

ü        Know when you do your best morning, night, under pressure, relaxed; schedule and prioritize your work accordingly.

ü        Treat everyone who works in the organization with respect and dignity, whether it be the cleaner or the managing director. Don't ever be patronizing.

ü        Never appear stressed in front of a client, a customer or your boss. Take a deep breath and ask yourself: In the course of human events, how important is this?

ü        If you get the entrepreneurial urge, visit someone who has his own business. It may cure you.

ü        Acknowledging someone else's contribution will repay you doubly.

ü        Career planning is an oxymoron. The most exciting opportunities tend to be unplanned.

ü        Always choose to do what you'll remember ten years from now.

ü        The size of your office is not as important as the size of your pay cheque.

ü        Understand what finished work looks like and deliver your work only when it is finished.

ü        The person who spends all of his or her time is not hard-working; he or she is boring.

ü        Know how to write business letters including thank-you notes as well as proposals.

ü        Never confuse a memo with reality. Most memos from the top are political fantasy.

ü        Eliminate guilt. Don't fiddle expenses, taxes or benefits, and don't cheat colleagues.

ü        Reorganizations mean that someone will lose his or her job. Get on the committee that will make the recommendations.

ü        Job security does not exist.

ü        Always have an answer to the question, What would I do if I lost my job tomorrow

ü        Go to the company Christmas party. Don't get drunk at the company Christmas party.

ü        Avoid working at weekends. Work longer during the week if you have to.

ü        The most successful people in business are interesting.

ü        Sometimes you'll be on a winning streak and everything will click; take maximum advantage. When the opposite is true, hold steady and wait it out.

ü        Never in your life say, Its not my job

ü        Be loyal to your career, your interests and yourself.

ü        Understand the skills and abilities that set you apart. Use them whenever you have an opportunity.

ü        People remember the end of the project. As they say in boxing, Always finish stronger than you start.

Story - The Dad, The Son and The Car

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 year old son picked stone & scratched lines on the side of car.In anger, the man took the child's hand & hit many times. Not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.. When the child saw his father... with painful eyes, he asked."Dad when will my fingers grow back?" Man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to car and kicked it many times. Devastated by his own actions... sitting in front of the car, he looked at the scratches, child had written "I LOVE YOU DAD"

Anger and love have no limits -  Things are to be used and people are to be loved,  but problem in today's world is that, People are used and things are loved.

Need Success? Work on your thoughts

There is a famous saying that we are the product of our thoughts. That means we become what we think about so I decided to write this article to understand the importance of thoughts, their contributing factors, thought analysis and purification techniques.

During all day we keep thinking about things, events, families, issues, future, money, office and several other stuff. Our thoughts drive us to take some actions and hence we are moving towards our destiny by each and every action. That means our thought is the strongest part of our destiny as it is the root cause of every action. In my opinion, our Thoughts Process primarily consists of following five contributing factors. I will include some of the details of each factor and summarize the Thought Purification tips under each category below:

1.     Education: Education broadens the horizon of our minds. More education means that the mind is exposed to more knowledge and possibilities. Education when combined with experience result in more mental growth as compared to a less educated person. Hence the quality of thoughts are directly linked with the education. So to keep our 'thoughts seeds' healthy we must seek for Good knowledge, the knowledge which freshen up our brain cells, which gives us positive energy and boosts up our mental power. So we must keep learning new things throughout our life in order to synergize.    Article written by Junaid Tahir. Feel free to feedback at mjunaidtahir at gmail dot com

2.    Desires: This is sometimes a killing factor. For example, If we let our brain running behind our desires blindly, we will end up with considering short-cuts in our life for achievements. These short cuts basically kill the purity of thoughts and consequently bound us doing social evils such as back-biting, lying, deceiving, stealing, fraud, bribery and other forms of corruption. Hence, we have to have sold control on our desires to control this phenomenon. But this does not mean, we should drop our genuine desires. Remember, Positive desires combined with Positive Thoughts and Actions will result in success.  However Positive Desires combined with Negative Thoughts and Action will result in crimes which I just mentioned above.  Article written by Junaid Tahir. Feel free to feedback at mjunaidtahir at gmail dot com

3.    Brought up: Each one of us has been brought up in a unique way by our parents. Some of us have been grown in very healthy physical and mental family environment. Some have mixed kind of situations both positive and negative in terms of finance, family bonding and social lives. Our mental growth has been based on all the events which have been taking place in our childhood, teenage and even our current day to day life. We can't go back to past to change our brought-up but what we can do is to drop the negative part of our past and tightly hold on to the positive one. It's pretty much straight forward. If we wish to keep the Negative things in mind, that means we are polluting your brain and your 'Thinking System'. So the choice is ours!

4.    Company (family & friends): This is something we can really work on to make our life happy. A mature 'human environment' is an indication of healthy mental growth. We must always try to surround yourself with positive, fun-loving, friendly, optimistic, constructive,  cheerful and bright people so the brain is free from stress consequently brain will automatically start working on positive thoughts.  When with family, we should always endeavour for creating a happy environment by meeting the logical desires of family members, cracking jokes, listening empathically. This helps divert the brain towards positive feelings and hence our upcoming thoughts would be mature, positive and stress-free. Article written by Junaid Tahir. Feel free to feedback at mjunaidtahir at gmail dot com

5.    Circumstances: Good and bad things happen to everyone but we must not throw ourselves totally on our circumstances. It is said that life is 20% what happens to us and 80% how we react to it. So consider every challenge as a new adventure and try to adopt a positive approach for a safe exit. Control your circumstance by surrounding yourself with positive people, behaving good with others, taking corrective and preventive measures for any mishaps. There are situations when we don't have control on the events happened to us. In this case, we don't have much choice but to live with the situation. However we shouldn't let such things steal our peace of mind. So we need to seek help from others and try to find solution. It is advised not to get involved too much for any situation. It is wisely said by someone that if you can't laugh on the same joke again and again so why worrying on the same trouble again and again! Article written by Junaid Tahir. Feel free to feedback at mjunaidtahir at gmail dot com

Conclusion: You are the product of your thoughts. Quality of your thoughts determines the level of peace of mind. Good thoughts result in good fruit, bad thoughts bad fruit. So every seed of thought matters. Always remember: Small minds think and discuss about people, average minds think and discuss about events, higher minds think and discuss about ideas and great mind actually execute & innovate in silence.

Story of Doctor Spencer for the invention of Microwave Oven

Microwave ovens have become an essential part of our homes. Did you ever wonder how this easy and quick way of cooking started?

The microwave oven did not come about as a result of someone trying to find a better, faster way to cook. During World War II, Dr. Spencer noticed something very unusual. He was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted.

This intrigued Dr. Spencer, so he tried another experiment. This time he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube and standing a little farther away, he watched the popcorn sputter, crack and pop all over his lab.

The next morning, Dr. Spencer decided to put the magnetron tube near an egg. He was joined by a curious colleague, and they both watched as the egg began to tremor and quake. The curious colleague moved in for a closer look just as the egg exploded and splattered hot yolk all over his amazed face.

The melted candy bar, the popcorn, and now the exploding egg....If an egg can be cooked that quickly, why not other foods? Experimentation began...

Initial reactions were unfavourable. Not surprisingly, many were highly reluctant about these first units, and so they found only limited acceptance.....but not for long. Further improvements and refinements produced a more reliable, lightweight and less expensive Microwave ovens. By 1975 sales of Microwave ovens exceeded that of Gas Ranges in US.

It is not necessary that someone always has to go the extra mile in search of new ideas. Ideas can "happen" as a by-product of something else. But what you choose to do with them may lead you to change many lives!!!

Criticism - The Creativity Killer

Ideally speaking, Criticism is the act of analyzing someone or something (such as an article, video, book, product  service etc) with the intention of improving personnel, product or services. However in the day to day life, you will meet so many people criticizing with the negative intentions. For example they do this to defame, discourage and de-motivate others. So it is usually used in negative sense although criticizing does not necessarily means to find fault. In this article I shall give my comments in two categories. First, when you are being criticized and second when you are criticizing:

1-  When you are being criticized:

a)    Take it positive. There is  a chance that your well wisher has rightly drawn your attention to something for which there is a dire need for improvement. If this is the case, be grateful to the person who helped you identified the aspect of improvement and move towards the corrective actions.

b)   There is a chance that the criticism is being done just to depress you. Analyze is carefully. If required, seek advice from some friend or colleague about this negative feedback. If feedback meant to be good, see point-1 else shun it right way not allowing you to disturb your peace of mind.

2-  When you are criticizing someone/something:

a)    Always remember that negative criticism results in generation of negative energies so try to criticize in a positive and encouraging manager. Do not become the 'full-stop' for someone's creativity.

b)   Whenever you are about to criticize; ask yourself whether your intention is to help assist the person or you are just going to spread negativity which will consequently result in corrosion on someone's creative skills.

c)    If you really want to criticize someone, do it in an encouraging way. Try to give your comments in multiple groups so that the person understands your feedback and segregate it easily so that he can transform your suggestions in to corrective actions.

d)   Remember the fact that the act of complaining is taking criticism to the next level which is even more damaging and dangerous. So try to remain inside the limits of criticism instead of complaints.

Having said that, there are bad mouthed people who are in habit of constant criticism, regardless of their mental comprehension of things. Be aware of them. They are polluting not only themselves but the environment as well and ultimately impacting you, your product, your skills and/or your services. They are spreading negativity.

Closing my article with the famous quote that says "Instead of criticizing others, become the change you wish to see in the world"

Any comments? feel free to visit my wisdom and say it there.
