As the workplace landscape shifts, hiring trends for jobs in India continue to evolve. Paper resumes and classifieds in newspapers have now given way to smart online hiring. As a job seeker, it’s important you stay on top of the latest trends related to jobs in India and modify your job search process. Here are some of the latest hiring trends you need to know as a job seeker.

Technology
Technology acts as a key facilitator in automating hiring processes. Recruiters are now deploying artificial intelligence and machine-learning algorithms to analyse resumes and communicate with candidates. Even traditional in-person interviews are making way for video calls. Companies now also conduct online assessments that provide a 360-degree view of the candidate’s skills in the early stages of an interview. If the interview is conducted on a technological medium, make sure that you properly display your skills as it helps employers get a complete understanding of your calibre and assess you for the role.

Work flexibility
Another trend intricately linked to growing technology adoption is flexibility and remote work. And organizations are obliging by offering employees greater flexibility, both in terms of time and location. In fact, studies have found that telecommuting is an increasingly popular trend with many workers who prefer it over a fixed day job. If you don’t see yourself tied to a place every day of the week, leverage this trend to ask for flexible work arrangements and find the right job in India.

Passive hiring
Reaching out to candidates who haven’t applied directly for the job or who are not actively looking for one is a new trend that has come into action. This form of hiring is called passive hiring wherein instead of waiting for candidates to come to them, recruiters fill the position with the best person available. This form of hiring is becoming even more prevalent with social media as employers now rely on social profiles to research and reach out to potential candidates. Make sure your online profiles, especially on professional networks, are updated so it’s easy for employers to reach you.

Texting for communication
In the past, job-related communications strictly happened over email or phone calls. As recruitment adopts more informal modes of communication, it isn’t uncommon to see recruiters contact job seekers over phone messages and even WhatsApp for giving messages, confirm interviews etc. to save time writing emails. However, job seekers should be careful with this. Use text to communicate only if it is the recruiter who has initiated it. Do not take this liberty yourself.

Contract roles
When companies want to recruit for a highly skilled function quickly, they often look to recruiting contractors or freelancers. If you possess a skill that is in demand, you can also look at temporary or contract opportunities instead of a full-time job. Contracting is also a great way to refine your skills and build your CV. Even though moving from a full-time job to a temporary contract may look like a risk, the benefits are many. Temporary assignments give you a glimpse of new workplaces and an opportunity to experience different management styles and cultures.
