You don't have to wait until the new year to make a resolution. Instead, make changes in the fall when your kids go back to school. Getting your kids on board may yield more success than trying to go it alone in January.

Bike With Your Kiddos to School Daily

If your kids' school is close to home, consider going on a family bike ride instead of piling into the car for a short drive. This not only improves your family's health, but it can also help your kids do better in school. Morning exercise releases endorphins and wakes up the brain for a more productive day overall. 

Get New Helmets

Biking is a great way to fit exercise into your family's schedule, but head injuries are no joke. Make sure your helmet and your kids' helmets fit and are up-to-date. Hybrid helmets are comfortable enough for daily use but can save your life in the event of an accident. 

Prepping Healthy Lunches the Night Before

Mindful eating is another important part of long-term health. There's nothing wrong with prepackaged snack foods from time to time, but if that's the only lunch option during a busy morning, you risk sending your kids to school without the optimal nutrition.

Instead, set aside time the night before to put together a lunchbox. Foods like noodles in sauce and sandwiches can easily stand up to a night in the fridge. That way, you won't have to scramble for lunch in the morning.

Once the kids are at school, you can take your electric bike on quick errand runs. A standard bike can be demanding for most people at distances over a mile or two, whereas an electric bike is a good choice because the motor propels you along. You'll also save money in fuel costs by not using the car for short trips.
