We are very lucky here in Australia in that we have so many natural
resources that can be mined which create thousands of jobs for many people and
increased the living standards for any communities that surround them. It is
also true to say that the mining industry has improved the Australian economy
quite significantly and the whole industry pays significant tax revenues to the
government every single year. If you are involved in the mining industry then
you will have experience of the incredibly high wages that are on offer and the
amount of money that is spent on plant and machinery.
Any mining enterprise worth its salt would have already purchased at
least one of the many pieces of plant-like articulated dump trucks and many other
pieces of machinery that make working in the mining industry so much easier.
Many communities would not have any opportunities for employment without these
very mines being based in their local community and in the quite remote areas
across Australia, the mining industry helps to transform these places
positively. Latest figures tell us that at least a quarter of 1 million people
are directly employed in this industry and then there are countless others in
the many other industries that surround it.
If you’re not yet sold on the positive effects of the mining industry for
any community then maybe the following can help to change your mind.
1. Opportunities for jobs - When there are
plans to set up a mine then the people in the local area have many job
opportunities coming their way including higher salaries. Anyone who gets an
opportunity to work within this industry gets offered access to many different
job opportunities, access to underground mining
technology and everyone is very well paid.
2.
Benefits
for the community - The mining community is very aware of its
responsibility to the local communities and so they put strategies in place so
that they can buy most of what they need locally which helps to protect local
businesses and protect local jobs.
3. Better infrastructure - The mine itself
is going to need the right kind of infrastructure to be able to take the mind
goods out and to be distributed all across Australia and outside the country as
well. These mining companies spend millions of dollars on developing current
roads and building new ones and this can only have a positive effect on the
whole community at large.
4. The social benefits - Because there is
a mine in the local area, local businesses tend to thrive due to the increased
number of people who are staying in the local community and the amount of money
that they spend. This has a positive knock-on effect on everyone and it isn’t
unknown for a mining enterprise to provide sponsorship from
many local community groups.
5.
The
bigger picture - Modern mining ventures always have the local
environment and ecosystem in mind when they are mining and drilling for
essential minerals. It leads to more housing being built, and renewable energy
being used whenever possible all the while making sure that the best safety
practices are in place for all workers and everyone else living in the local
area.
It is easy to see then the many positive effects that the mining industry
has on local communities and these five are only the tip of the iceberg. It
contributes greatly to Australia’s exports and mining provides a much-needed
boost to community development where additional skills are learned and more
knowledge is accumulated. This leads to a lot more innovations and many more
opportunities as well.
